Diving into what happened, why it happened and what it means (the why and so what) generates greater insight which gives founders more confidence to take control of their business. It’s like a multi-lap track race where you can enter at any lap depending on where your business is. In lap one, we improve reporting and trust in the financial processes. This takes about six weeks. In lap two, we build tools that drive more insight and encourage you to take more calculated risks. This takes approximately eight weeks. Fundraising and growth initiatives can take between 90 days and six months. A 20% increase in cash flow happens in less than 24 months.

I worked as an executive in startups, small businesses and enterprise roles before transitioning into finance so I have greater empathy and can add more value than someone whose only experience is in finance or accounting. And, as a nerd with athleticism, a geek with fashion sense and a trained data scientist who could comfortably deliver a TED Talk, I bring intelligence, credibility and passion to the job. This juxtaposition has enabled me to connect with executives, strategists, doers and all kinds of real people, and that makes me quite different.

It is and it isn’t. Six years ago, I started looking past industries and dialing in on the nuances of individual business models. By and large, most of us are selling a widget, building software, offering professional services or facilitating the transactions between two parties (in a marketplace), so I started studying how those business models work, and as a I result, I've been able to get up to speed and find growth for clients in 49 different industries! Of course the industry experience helps, but nothing is more important than understanding how the underlying business model works, and that's what I do.
